City of Houston says they have not changed heavy trash collection system

Houston Public Works has responded to questions from KPRC 2 about whether the system for heavy trash collection is being changed.

KPRC 2’s questions comes after individuals posted comments online speculating about possible changes in the way the city collects heavy trash.

The question is whether or not the city is moving from a scheduled-based heavy trash collection system to an appointment-based system. Houston Public Works says that has not happened.

“Heavy trash continues to be collected on a scheduled basis, with eligible residences assigned a collection day and receiving service every other month,” a statement from Houston Public Works reads in part.

Houston Public Works says residents can confirm their collection schedule by visiting HoustonSolidWaste.org or by using the HTX Collects mobile app.
