Tobias Harris says he's ready to win big with San Antonio Spurs next season

Sixteen-year NBA player Tobias Harris was the only offseason addition to the San Antonio Spurs, and his one-on-one interview with KSAT 12’s Mary Rominger reveals why he said the team is his “perfect match.”

Harris has balled out for several NBA teams across his career, averaging roughly 16 points per game in the process. The forward said this team is the best to be in a position to win an NBA championship next season.

“I felt like during free agency that this was the best team to do it with,” Harris said. “My versatility playing, being a leader, veteran, and being able to help these young guys along the way would be needed here.”

Harris said we’d have to wait to see if his skill set is the missing piece the Spurs need to get over the hump and win a championship.

Harris watched the Spurs’ playoff run while staying focused on playing in his own Eastern Conference playoff series with the Detroit Pistons. He said navigating the postseason with a young Pistons team helped his transition to San Antonio.

But the 16-year veteran didn’t expect a starting slot signing with the Spurs. Harris said he just wants to help the team get better.

“My expectations are to earn every single minute that I get,” Harris said. “I’m at that point in my career, my life, that I have one thing in mind, and that’s to win big here.”
